USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  The New England Journal of Medicine doesn’t like “research parasites”.

That’s the term used in its January 21 editorial “Data Sharing” to disparage people who, among other sins, may “ use the data to try to disprove what the original investigators had posited [my emphasis].

This is an amazing statement by what should be a preeminent reporter of medical science, but for too long has allied itself with the antigun movement.

Executive Action, Gun Control and Mental Illness: Too Little is Still Too Much

One outcome of Obama’s announcement is great concern that physicians & mental health care providers will now be reporting everyone’s mental illness to the FBI, which runs the NICS.

You Might Be A Hoplophobe If …

Hoplophobes are people who have an irrational fear of firearms. What is it like for them as they wait for their monster to attack, and can they be helped?

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Yes, “Here we are again.”

Drs. Malina, Morrissey, Campion, Hamel and Drazen, along with the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine, are frustrated.

They explain themselves, though not the rest of us, in their editorial “Rooting Out Gun Violence” in the December 16 NEJM.

Inexplicably, Americans have somehow resisted the call of the anti-gun confederacy to enact “essential regulatory changes”, such as prohibiting “people on the terrorist watch list from getting guns”, to “enhance background checks”, and to “ban … military-style assault weapons [sic], which ought to be uncontroversial”. One wonders whether they get any news apart from the front page of the New York Times.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  On Tuesday this week we all should have been jubilantly celebrating the 224th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights, the original 10 amendments to the United States’ federal constitution.

Remarkably, it slipped by relatively unremarked. Yet our Bill of Rights may actually be the most significant of our republic’s founding documents.

The Declaration of Independence announced our nationhood. The Constitution defined our government. The Bill of Rights confirms our liberty as free people who are not subservient to our government.

Doctors Don’t Know Gun Control

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  I’m in favor of discussing firearms with anyone.  That’s what we do here at Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO).

But should doctors advise patients about guns?   The answer depends on one’s perspective—and what that discussion entails.

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Public Health Association say “Yes” but define “safe gun use” as “Never”. Florida’s Firearms Owners’ Privacy Act of 2011 says “No” in order to prevent anti-gun doctors from inappropriately influencing patients. The American Medical Association is on board with the anti-s and is backing appeals of the law.

Is This a Turning Point in the Gun Fight?

Something interesting may be happening. The lines in the sand are becoming clearer between gun banners and freedom lovers.

Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership

USA -(Ammoland.com)- I’ve met a lot of people who like guns.  Although a large number are older, white and male, there are increasing numbers of women, a mix of ethnic and racial groups, all religious identities (or none) and all ages from all walks of life.

We include all types of personalities, lifestyles and other interests.  So we are pretty much like any mix of Americans, linked because we appreciate firearms and what we can do with them along with valuing our right to keep and bear them.

USA -(Ammoland.com)- What do a couple of well-educated investment professionals have to say about gun control?

A lot, if you’re Evan DeFilippis and Devin Hughes.

How authoritative are they?  Let’s say that’s a matter of opinion.  Highly, in theirs and in that of The Trace, which published their latest effort, What Caused the Two-Decade Dip in Crime Rates?  Not ‘Good Guys with Guns’.  This is a scattershot opinion piece chock full of statistics and analysis to justify the usual anti-gun beliefs.

They’re right about one thing— the fact that the United States has experienced a long, steady decline in violence for decades, even while the number of guns among us has increased dramatically.  As a jumping off point that’s fine, but they need better aim to nail the landing.
