USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-   As predictable as hurricanes in September, hoplophobic media outlets have jumped on the Las Vegas mass shooting as an excuse to wheel out their favorite gun control nostrums.

For its October 3^rd article, “Calls Grow for CDC to Resume Gun Violence Research”, New York City-based MedPage Today interviewed eleven anti-gun rights advocacy researchers and organized medicine spokespersons.

For an appearance of balance, the lead author interviewed one pro-gun rights doctor—me.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  During the founding of America and our republic, the general belief was that religious faith was necessary to the health of a people.

Protestant Christians dominated in an increasing variety of denominations, but Roman Catholics and Jews were present early on thanks to our shores welcoming the persecuted to seek their own havens.  Religious tolerance became a colonial ethic.  (Sadly, Muslims were not yet “building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy”.)  

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Nearly a month ago I was asked to complete a member satisfaction survey from my county medical society.

As part of my response I sent a letter to San Bernardino County Medical Society president Michael Sequeira, MD, published November 1 in this blog.  I expressed my personal opposition to Proposition 63, a California gun control ballot initiative (the initiative passed on November 8 by a large margin).

Let’s be absolutely clear—gun ownership is an enumerated constitutional right. It is at the top of the list of the civil rights of all Americans.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- Early this month I attended a day-long seminar given by the San Bernardino (California) County Sheriff’s Medical Reserve Corps.

It was a sit-down class on dealing with active shooter attacks, and especially on one such attack with great meaning to us who live in this county.

The speakers were intimately involved in the San Bernardino terrorist attack of December 2, 2015.

About 200 invitees listened as San Bernardino Police chief Jarrod Burguan spoke for nearly an hour about how a county environmental health specialist attended a Christmas party with co-workers at a state building, the Inland Regional Center.

The employee left the gathering briefly, and then returned with his wife.  Both were heavily armed, and as it turned out, were Islamic jihadists returning the kindness of their American colleagues with a premeditated nightmare of savagery and slaughter.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- At Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO) we’ve often written about advocacy science, which really isn’t science at all.

Rather, it is politics masquerading as science.  There’s also such a thing as advocacy journalism, which really isn’t journalism at all.  It is politics masquerading as journalism.

DRGO recently was approached by Kaiser Health News reporter Shefali Luthra for a story on the latest pediatric journal article aimed at shoring up the case for doctors probing their patients about guns in their homes.

Few know of who Joel Myrick, Tracy Bridges or Joe Zamudio are, three armed citizen heroes who ran to, not from, the gunfire of mass murderers.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- The staid American College of Surgeons (ACS) has mostly kept out of the culture wars against American gun owners started years ago by other organized medicine groups.

But now they want to push gun prohibitionists’ political goals, including banning America’s favorite firearms.  And although they will deny it, they don’t want any back talk from freedom-loving Americans.

Surgeons deal with the immediate damage of gun crime, treating victims of gunshot wounds in the emergency department and operating room. 

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  On Independence Day weekend California Governor Jerry Brown, with the stroke of a pen, created several million brand new criminals in the once-Golden State.

Before jumping on a plane for a European vacation, he signed six of the eleven gun control bills sent to him by the one-party lynch mob that California’s legislature has become.

All six laws will go into effect next year. They create new crimes that will be committed simply because of Governor Brown’s signature, not by any actual misdeeds of hapless Californians against person or property.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- You don’t have to be a trained statistician or criminologist to get published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) if you’re on message about guns, judging from this new anti-gun advocacy article.

The editors at one of America’s leading medical journals have been clear for years on what they want readers to think about guns—private ownership of firearms should be banned.

A rabidly anti-gun website is helpfully coaching us on how we can make guns safer for everyone. If you believe that, your probably gonna voter for Hillary too...

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- To see how utterly disconnected the public health gun prohibition movement and their major media allies are from the everyday lives of normal people, consider the recent carefully orchestrated media blast of Dr. Garen Wintemute’s latest gun control advocacy article.

My expert colleagues Dr. Margulies and Dr. Young dissected this smelly specimen of junk science last week.

But there’s another message in Wintemute’s article.  Medical gun control activists are perceiving pushback from the sick and injured people who come to them for help but instead find themselves pressured to give up their civil right to own a firearm.
