USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Just what is “Good Health”?

Does it consist of being free of disease?  Is a person, having no diagnosable disease but too weak to walk, in good health?

Or, how about a strong and robust man with no diagnosable disease, who is confined to a ten by ten foot prison cell?

Is he in good health?

Could it be that attaining good health is more complex than just taking lots of vitamins?

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  The National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) was primarily a response to Prohibition era gang violence.

It mandated the registration of all suppressors, machine guns, short-barreled shotguns and rifles, and imposed a lengthy approval process and added enormous expense for these devices.  The $200 tax on manufacturing and transferring the covered items was exorbitant at the time, roughly $3,500 in today’s money.

After founding Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership 23 years ago and acting as its director, Timothy W. Wheeler, MD is retiring at the end of this year.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  In the debate over gun control, it is often difficult to know which so-called “facts” are real, given the conflicting claims that are rampant. Not being able to analyze every claim we hear, it is helpful to identify trustworthy sources.

In a previous article, “European social democracies and gun control,” I wrote that many Americans are extremely naïve when it comes to trusting the government with their liberties. In fact, there is an interesting dichotomy because citizens mistrust the economic acumen of government and don’t trust it with their wallets, but it is a different story with personal liberty!

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  For many years, Americans’ natural right to self defense and our Constitutionally enshrined right to keep and bear arms has been under attack.

The agents have been many of the same forces and factions that have been assaulting and slowly eroding Americans’ other civil liberties.  The November Presidential election seemed to be pushing the Second Amendment, like a child with recurrent leukemia, toward a fate from which recovery seemed unlikely.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Imagine this reality:

The Lone Ranger was arrested in Lone Pine, California today for the crime of illegally transferring silver bullets.

The famed masked man had just apprehended an armed felon after shooting the gun out of his hand.  As was his practice for the last eighty years, he gave a silver bullet to the outlaw’s victim.

She was a kindly old widow who was robbed and held captive by the desperado. This lady, grateful that her life and property were restored, treasured the silver bullet as a symbol that justice was done.

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  During the founding of America and our republic, the general belief was that religious faith was necessary to the health of a people.

Protestant Christians dominated in an increasing variety of denominations, but Roman Catholics and Jews were present early on thanks to our shores welcoming the persecuted to seek their own havens.  Religious tolerance became a colonial ethic.  (Sadly, Muslims were not yet “building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy”.)  

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Nearly a month ago I was asked to complete a member satisfaction survey from my county medical society.

As part of my response I sent a letter to San Bernardino County Medical Society president Michael Sequeira, MD, published November 1 in this blog.  I expressed my personal opposition to Proposition 63, a California gun control ballot initiative (the initiative passed on November 8 by a large margin).

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)-  Imagine this reality:

It was winter, and our 2 year old had an earache.  Even though both my wife and I are doctors, she’s always insisted that our children see the pediatrician when they’re sick.

I was working the swing shift, so daytime sick call fell to me.

Fortunately, the pediatrician was able to see him right away, and neither of us were surprised when her exam revealed an ear infection.  I thanked her for her time, and after a brief chat, headed over to the pharmacy with my son in tow to pick up the antibiotic she had prescribed. 

USA –  -(Ammoland.com)- Hillary Clinton’s intentionally misleading comments during the final Presidential candidate debate on October 19 2016, implying that her opposition to the Heller decision was about the safety of toddlers, is just the latest in the gun-grabbers’ arsenal of obfuscation.

Prior to the Heller decision, District of Columbia law required firearms in the home to be kept essentially inoperable.

This was little more than politically-motivated suppression of residents’ ability to defend themselves, masquerading as concern for safety.

This is especially peculiar since D.C. had very few gun-related accidents to begin with.

Let’s be absolutely clear—gun ownership is an enumerated constitutional right. It is at the top of the list of the civil rights of all Americans.
