Off-duty Pennsylvania state trooper Brian Knirnschild opened his front door to find his neighbor, Kristopher Barkus, standing outside with what appeared to be a gun. When Barkus aimed it at him, Knirnschild opened fire.

A Coalville, Iowa, homeowner was stabbed multiple times in the neck during an early morning robbery Sunday, but still managed to get the better of the burglar and shot the susepect three times.
