Woman discovers guns in violin case while walking near Potomac River

While walking on a path Wednesday near the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., a woman came across a violin case loaded with guns.

Police promptly responded and discovered more weapons stashed in the same area. There was a mix of long guns and handguns, some in plastic pails and others wrapped in garbage bags.

“At this point, we don’t know how they got there, why they’re here or when they got here,” said Sgt. Anna Rose, public information officer for the U.S. Park Police.

Barbara Joan Saffir, who regularly runs on the trail, said people don’t typically walk on the side where the case was found and described the area as “normally super quiet.”
