Columbus, OH -(AmmoLand.com)- Breaking 890 of their 1,000 targets, the Rocket Trap Squad of Wisconsin won the Intermedia/Entry Level Division title in Trap at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.
Jacob Weyker of Belgium and Joshua Nett of Oostburg each delivered 181 targets in their team’s national title run. They were followed by Nolan VanEss of Belgium with 178, Matthew Andersen of Belgium with 177 and Anthony Ogren of Cedar Grove with 173.
Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.
Second place in the division went to the Volunteer State’s Henry Co. No Fly Zone. The Tennessee squad of Dalton Dodd of Paris (189), Hunter Bennett of Dover (178), Parker Dyche of Buchanan (172), Evan Bevill of Buchanan (168) and Will Overton of Paris (167) combined for a total of 874 targets.
The C.O.A.H. Lead Slingers of Ohio placed third with 861 targets and were led by Pegasio Xenikis of London who broke 182 of 200 targets. Xenikis was followed by Brady Hicks of Grove City with 176, Ryan Peterman, also of London, with 173, Riley McKinney of Galloway with 166 and Miles Compton of Columbus with 164.
Finishing fourth was the Buckeye Chippewa Trapshooting Club squad from Ohio. Combining for a total of 858 targets were Cole Irvine of Hudson (185), Cameron Armstrong of Akron (180), Alex Tackett of Tallmadge (177), Gavin Woodford of Doylestown (170) and Elise VanNewkirk of Brunswick (146).
Rounding out the top five was a third Ohio squad, the Moulton Gun Club Trap Team, with 849. They were led by Austin Pohlman of Delphos with 188, followed by Wyatt Miller of St. Marys with 187, Carter Suchland of St. Marys with 172, Aaron Fortkamp of Celina with 157 and Riley Busch of Bluffton with 145.
The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.
The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
