What is the Correct Scope Mount for a Remington Model 742 Rifle?
Brownells Gunsmith Corner
Question: I have a Remington Model 742 Rifle, which was made in 1967, and I'm looking for a scope mount. I'm interested in a dovetail type mount on a two piece base if possible. Also, I need some detachable rings for quick removal. What would you recommend?
Answer: We don't really have a set for the 742, but the one for the 7400 can be made to work by drilling and tapping an extra hole or two. The number for the Leupold mount is (#526-492-180) and the medium rings are (#526-471-810) along with other heights on that page. This is all we have for quick detachable rings that can be made to work on that gun.
