Virginia cop mistakes daughter sneaking in after curfew for intruder (VIDEO)

A Virginia father accidentally shot his 16-year-old daughter after mistaking her for a home invader early Tuesday morning.

Deputy Easton McDonald woke up in his Frederick County home around 3:30 a.m. to prepare for his shift with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. He noticed his alarm system indicated the garage door was open, and when McDonald went to investigate, he shot the shadowy figure in the torso, WHAG reports.

“When he went to go investigate what had set off the alarm, he heard some banging and rustling around in the garage,” said Frederick County Sheriff’s Capt. Donnie Lang. “At that particular point, he obtained a firearm that he had there in the kitchen area.”

McDonald quickly realized he had shot his own daughter and rushed to transport her to Winchester Medical Center, but in his haste, McDonald wrecked the vehicle.

Medical personnel responded to the scene of the accident and were able to transport McDonald’s daughter to the hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. McDonald didn’t sustain any injuries.

It was later determined the daughter was trying to sneak back into the house after breaking her curfew.

Lang said the department will “confer with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office [to] reference all the facts” before deciding whether or not to charge McDonald.
