Video released of man attacking officer with a flag pole (VIDEO)

Authorities have released video from a surveillance system following criticism over an incident in which a Lousiville Police officer fatally shot a 35-year-old African man.

The brief encounter was captured by cameras outside of the Smoker’s Smoke Shop and shows a verbal exchange between Officer Nathan Blanford and Deng Manyoun.

Manyoun appears to walk away, but momentarily reappears within the camera view carrying a large flag pole and swinging it at the officer. Blanford, in turn, fired at Manyoun, who immediately fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead.

Police Chief Steve Conrad said the officer, who is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, acted in self-defense when he fired the shots.
