President Donald Trump went big and bold for his inauguration speech Friday, promising to deliver power from Washington back to the people of America.
For too long, Trump argued, Washington has flourished while the working people of America have suffered.
“The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer,” Trump said. “Everyone is listening to you now. You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.”
Trump emphasized America belongs to all of its citizens, not just a chosen few, and promised to deal with a flawed education system and the poverty and crime that stunt the growth of so many.
“This American carnage stops right here and stops right now,” Trump said.
Critical of President Barack Obama’s foreign policy and trade decisions, Trump promised that “from this day forward, it’s going to be only America first, America first.”
In a grandiose finale, Trump painted a vision of a country protected not only by its strong military and law enforcement but also by God, an America in which thoughts and dreams must be bigger and bolder than they ever have before.
“A new national pride will stir ourselves, lift our sights and heal our divisions.,” Trump said. “It’s time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget, that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots.”
