Trial Begins For Robbers Who Disguised Themselves As White Cops

The federal court trial of Akeem Monsalvatge, Derrick Dunkley and Edward Byam opened yesterday with witnesses describing how they were completely fooled. The three men robbed a check cashing store in Queens last year that could have been pulled from a Hollywood heist movie. Prosecutors even claim that it was.

The trio robbed the check cashing store dressed as white cops. Where the heist takes a twist is that all of the robbers where black. Their outfits were so good, none of the victims in the store had any idea that they were not white males. This was thanks to a company by the name of CFX Composite Effects. The company has done work on movies like 2Guns that premieres August 2nd.

The robbers spent $2,000 on the masks and told CFX that the masks would be used in a music video.

Prosecutors claim that the robbers were inspired by the 2010 movie “The Town.” In the film a group of robbers wear masks to conceal their appearance then pour bleach to destroy any DNA evidence while robbing a bank. The trio used the same tactics.

The robbers made off with over 200,000 dollars in cash and were at large until one of the robbers made the mistake of emailing CFX and thanking them for the masks. Stating that, I’m sending this message to say I’m extremely pleased by CFX work on the mask, ‘The realism of the mask is unbelievable.”
