On Thursday Soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) spent the afternoon distributing flags on all 230,000 grave markers in the cemetery.

The Flags-In detail ensures that each marker is adorned for its own dedicated flag to commemorate the service and sacrifice of each hero. More than 1,000 Soldiers from the nation’s oldest infantry regiment covered the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery in under four hours, and it is a mission they have carried out since 1948.

One departure from the practice is on Chaplain’s Hill, the section of the cemetery set aside for fallen Army religious personnel. The U.S. Army Chaplain Corps handles that personally

Members of Arlington National Cemetery’s Chaplain team took part in the time-honored tradition of Flags In today. In this video, CH (CPT) Brian Eastham said that freedom is not free after he walked the rows of Chaplain’s Hill honoring those who have gone before him.
