Pro-Russian troops fired warning shots at unarmed Ukrainian soldiers as they attempted to engage in negotiations outside the seized Sevastopol, Belbek, airbase in Crimea Tuesday morning.

As the confrontation between the two sides escalated, the pro-Russian troops fired several warning shots at the nearly 300 approaching Ukrainian soldiers and threatened to shoot them in the legs. It’s unclear if the men with guns are Russian soldiers or pro-Russian Ukranian soldiers, Gawker reports.

According to Sky, there are currently around 16,000 Russian troops in Ukraine near Crimea, an order President Putin carried out in direction violation of international law and against the many warnings of the U.S. government.
