Many hunters do not realize that it was the forward thinking of a couple of hunters in Congress that brought about the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act, also known as the Pittman-Robertson Act, allowing funds generated by an excise tax on firearms and ammunition to be combined with matching state wildlife agency funds to conserve wildlife and its habitat.
The act was created by Nevada Senator Key Pittman and Virginia Congressman Absalom Willis Robertson, and then signed into law September 2, 1937, by President Franklin Roosevelt. This money supports and enhances wildlife in many forms. So “If You Enjoy Watching Wildlife,” THANK A HUNTER!
