Ted Nugent will attend State of the Union Address with Texas Congressman

Rock star and Über gun enthusiast Ted Nugent will accompany Texas Congressman Steve Stockman at tonight’s State of the Union Address by President Barack Obama.

“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” Stockman said in a statement.  “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.

In tonight’s Address, the president will speak about several current events including gun violence, which is a loaded phrase that covers not only gun violence, but gun control, gun rights and the Assault Weapons Ban.

Nugent has been probably the most vocal individual gun rights advocate out there today openly defending the Second Amendment as well as being critical of the president.

Recently Nugent sat down with Piers Morgan at a Texas gun range to further discuss “assault weapons” and their availability, and ultimately Nugent said that Morgan “would never understand” guns in the U.S.

While Nugent often toes the line of humor and seriousness about his dislike and distrust for Obama, regularly referring to him as things like the “scammer in chief,” he did gain the attention of the Secret Service last year because of comments he made at the NRA convention. He said, If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” However, the Secret Service ultimately determined his words not to be a direct threat to the president’s life.

As you’ve probably guessed, Stockman is also pro-guns and a staunch Obama critic. Before Obama announced his 23 Executive Actions, Stockman, on Jan. 14, turned a few heads when he released a statement saying, “I will seek to thwart this action [an assault on the Second Amendment] by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.”

Stockman’s office will also be live-tweeting official responses to the Address, “debunking myths and fact-checking” the president live and in real time. In addition, the White House is inviting anyone who wants to join in a panel discussion to talk about the topics the president covered in his speech.

The State of the Union Address airs at 9 pm eastern.
