The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced Monday that it has deemed Russian surplus '7N6' 5.45x39 type ammo "armor piercing" when fired out of a handgun so it cannot be imported into the United States.

A U.S. congressman made an official inquiry into whether or not the ATF has plans to ban the importation of the 7N6 offering of the 5.45x39 cartridge, and gun groups are already calling for action based on the speculations.
