Suge Knight charged with murder after fatal hit and run; Lawyer claims self-defense (VIDEO)

Marion “Suge” Knight is facing murder charges following an altercation which originally started at a Los Angeles film studio Thursday afternoon, but Knight’s lawyer claims the rap music mogul acted in self-defense when he ran over two people.

Knight was in the middle of filming the biopic “Straight Outta Compton” when an argument erupted between Knight and his colleagues. The two men with whom Knight was arguing soon left the studio, but according to authorities, Knight followed them to a Compton burger joint where the confrontation turned deadly.

“He was in the process of being physically assaulted by two men and in an effort to escape he unfortunately hit two (other) individuals,” said Knight’s attorney, James Blatt. “He was in his car trying to escape.”

But witnesses say that’s not quite what happened.

“The people we talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Capt. John Corina.

In fact, witness accounts indicate that Knight ran over the men, then put the truck in reverse, running over them again, before driving away. Still, Blatt says his client was unaware that he had hit the men.

The names of the victims have not been released. One victim died as a result of his injuries, and the second is expected to survive.

Knight, who has an extensive criminal record dating back to the 1980’s, surrendered himself to authorities early Friday morning.
