Shoulder-fired 1.5-inch DIY cannon in action (VIDEO)

“We’ve got 120 grains of black powder…” says backyard ordnance maker Royal Nonesuch with a wince as he steadies his homemade hand cannon towards a stack of milk jugs.

A modern take on the old Chinese hand cannon, Royal makes a very simple 37mm (1.5-inch) bore muzzleloader that he tries with various loads of black powder (hence no-NFA) and wadding pushing solid disc projectiles and loose shot. Ignition is via what looks like green cannon fuse fed into a touch hole.

It’s silly and is pretty low velocity probably due to the length of the tube versus the bore, but at least he uses eye pro this time around. Further, it’s likely better than what the Chinese had.

Likely.
