Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)-  Speaking at CPAC on March 8 2014, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said, “The armed citizen made this country free, [and] the armed citizen will keep this country free.”

According to Fox 6 Milwaukee, Clarke spoke to what he sees as unnecessary confusion surrounding the Second Amendment: “The Second Amendment is pretty clear. You don’t have to be a constitutional scholar to understand it.”

On January 26, 2013, Breitbart News reported that Clarke advised Milwaukee County residents to get a gun for self-defense, instead of just dialing 911 and helplessly waiting until police arrive. He said, “With officers laid off and furloughed, simply dialing 911 and waiting isn’t your best option. You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under your bed, or fight back.”

He touched on this again while speaking at CPAC: “When police cannot be there in real-time, when the threat is happening, somebody has to be there to stop the threat.” That person is the armed citizen.
