Tucson, AZ -(AmmoLand.com)- Safari Club International (SCI) expresses its appreciation for the bipartisan support of the U.S. Senate in passing S. 2012, the Energy Policy Modernization Act, complete with the passage of critical Amendment 3234.

Amendment 3234, introduced by Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), contains substantial language from the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act, an important piece of legislation to protect and advance the rights of America’s 37 million sportsmen and women.SCI thanks all members of the U.S. Senate for supporting Amendment 3234. In particular, SCI thanks the efforts of Senators Murkowski, Martin Heinrich (D-NM), James Risch (R-ID), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Deb Fischer (R-NE), and the other U.S. Senate members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.

SCI also recognizes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), and the rest of the Senate Majority Leadership team for bringing this important piece of legislation to the Senate floor.

SCI supporter and avid sportsman Senator Steve Daines said, “As a fifth generation Montanan and avid sportsman hunting, fishing, and access to public lands is a way of life for us. It’s important that this legacy is safeguarded so future generations can enjoy the same recreational opportunities and access to public lands that we enjoy today. This bill ensures our strong outdoors heritage is protected for our kids and grandchildren.”

Chip Burkhalter, SCI’s Director of Government Affairs, praised the passage of the Energy Bill and inclusion of Amendment 3234 as a, “critical step forward for America’s sportsmen and women.” Burkhalter further stated, “We thank Senator McConnell for his continued leadership and ensuring key provisions of the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act were included in the Energy Bill. We look forward to working with all legislators to bring this bill to final passage in both chambers, and enactment by the President.”

SCI also appreciates the efforts of the dozens of other conservation groups we have worked with on this effort including the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, the National Rifle Association, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The support of this legislation by these organizations was critical to ensure forward movement on the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act when obstacles stood in the way of the bill.

Finally, SCI expresses its thanks to all of the SCI members and hunters who have contributed grassroots efforts to help pass this important legislation. Today, hunters’ voices were heard on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
