A South Carolina man stood his ground when he caught a trespasser on his property in Greenville County Saturday morning, fatally shooting the trespasser after a confrontation outside of the man’s 107-year-old castle.

Police received the call around 9:30 a.m., alerting them of the suspicious man, confrontation and subsequent shooting. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found Matthew Whitman, 32, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not say why they believed Whitman, who lived nearby, was on the 30-acre property, which is described as secluded land.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.
