Sturm, Ruger & Company introduced the newest edition to its pistol lineup in the form of a compact version of the Ruger American Pistol.
Chambered in 9mm Luger, the compact model is available in two styles — manual safety and pro series. With a 3.55 inch barrel and overall length of 6.65 inches, the Ruger American compact weighs in at 28.75 ounces sans ammo.
Shipping inside a hard case, the Ruger American Pistol comes with small, medium and large replaceable grip modules and two nickel-Teflon plated steel magazines (a 17 round extended and a 12 round compact).
Built on a rigid, one-piece, black nitrided stainless steel chassis with integral frame rails and fire control housing, the pistol also features a stainless steel slide with a non-reflective, black nitride finish. A glass filled nylon grip frame, mil spec 1913 accessory rails and Novak LoMount Carry three-dot sights round out the 9mm’s design.
The original American Pistol, introduced in late 2015, was designed to meet U.S. military standards while appealing to a civilian consumer base. Utilizing a recoil-reducing barrel cam and low-mass slide, the pistol reduces felt recoil and produces less muzzle flip while firing.
Both the manual safety and the pro models retail for the same price — $579.
