Authorities say a string of weekend robberies in O’Fallon, Missouri, was planned using a new Pokemon Go app.
The game has an interactive app where players go to different locations, known as PokeStops, to “collect” monsters as part of the game, but the suspects were using the app to target unsuspecting players. The suspects would approach the victims at the location, then rob them at gunpoint.
“Apparently they were using the app to locate [people] standing around in the middle of a parking lot or whatever other location they were in,” the O’Fallon Police Department said in a statement.
O’Fallon Police Sgt. Robert Kendall said no shots were ever fired and no one was injured. He also confirmed four suspects were in custody and a handgun was recovered.
