Two guys discussing the execution of a robbery Tuesday while sitting in the parking lot of a Danville, Kentucky, restaurant got quite a surprise after one of them accidentally pocket dialed 911.
Mike Southerland, owner of Brothers’ BBQ, said the two suspects were frequent customers, as is Police Chief Tony Gray, who was having dinner at the restaurant when the accidental call came in. In fact, Southerland was talking with Gray when the two patrons turned suspects walked out of the business and Gray got a call.
“They start to walk out together, then Tony gets a call — I see Tony’s police face come on, so I knew something was up,” Southerland said.
Authorities pinged the cell phone signal, which led them to the restaurant. But somewhere in the course of the conversation about the robbery, the suspects mentioned Gray’s name as well.
Robert Bourne and David Grigsby were arrested in the parking lot. Both were drunk and charged with public intoxication. The prosecutor’s office will decide whether additional charges are warranted.
Although one of the suspects was in possession of a mask at the time, Gray said he isn’t entirely convinced the two were actually planning a robbery. Rather, he believes they were just being “drunk and stupid.”
Regardless, Southerland said they are no longer welcome in his establishment, despite their attempts to apologize.
