Buildings at a California naval medical center were evacuated and a heavy presence of law enforcement responded after reports of an active shooter situation at the facility Tuesday morning, but as it turned out, the report was a false alarm, with no evidence whatsoever indicating any shots had been fired.

Authorities received the call after a witness reported hearing three gunshots just before 8 a.m. in building #26 of the U.S. Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Law enforcement officials with the U.S. Marshals, along with SWAT teams from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and several other law enforcement agencies responded to the call.

Workers at the facility were escorted out with their hands in the air, as officials searched the building, and three area schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. But according to Navy Captain Curt Jones, there was nothing found that indicated any danger to anyone there.

Officials interviewed the witness, but no explanation was given about what could have caused the alarm. Jones confirmed in a press conference there was no evidence of any shots having been fired anywhere at the facility.
