Lincoln, NE -(AmmoLand.com)- Jake Cockle of Plattsmouth won the inaugural Director’s Cup Archery Tournament on June 5 at the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center.
The 33 youth and competitive archers in five divisions shot arrows from varying distances. The winners of each division then competed in a Robin Hood shoot-off in which each archer shot one arrow at a small target to determine the Cup winner.
The event was sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation, Cabela’s CLUB, Lincoln Archery Club, Nebraska Game and Parks Board of Commissioners, and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director Jim Douglas, who fired the first arrow to open the tournament and later presented the trophy to the champion.
Division winners received trophies and Cabela’s gift cards.
The top finishers were:
- Cubs Division (ages 12 and under) – 1. Owen Chaffin, Lincoln; 2. Reagan Grau, Bellevue; 3. Kiona Davis
- Youth Division (ages 13-15) – 1. Wyatt Morgan, Lincoln; 2. Hannah Cochran, Papillion; 3. Trevor Kefalas, Trenton
- Collegiate Division (ages 18-22) – 1. Jake Cockle, Plattsmouth
- Adult Division (ages 18 and up) – 1. Ryan Grubbs, Grand Island; 2. Ed Christman, Columbus; 3. Marty Gill, Fairbury
- Championship Division (ages 18 and up) – 1. Matt Carmin, Doniphan; 2. Tom Nauman, Hastings
- Archery Sportsmanship Award winners – Matt Carmin, Doniphan; Nicole Tinius, Lincoln; Reagan Grau, Bellevue; Josie Spiker, Morse Bluff
Brothers Henry Douglas, 5, and Parker Douglas, 7, of Seward, no relation to the director, were presented awards for competing in their first tournament and showing enthusiasm that represents the fun and excitement of archery.
