Earlsboro, OK -(Ammoland.com)- In response to our Action Alert sent out on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Senator David Holt has responded with a form letter in an attempt to deflect blame away from him for siding with Michael Bloomberg – again.

Senator Holt accused OK2A-Action of not knowing what happens at the Capitol unless it is a vote or a public debate and that we were simply trying to look busy and raise money for salaries.

Well, first of all, OK2A is an all volunteer organization. We have no paid employees or lobbyists. We are simply a group of citizens who care about the right to keep and bear arms. We don’t need to try to look busy because anti-gun politicians like him keep us genuinely busy. As for what goes on at the Capitol, we are there every day and we are well aware of what goes on there. Let me share some things that Senator Holt has been doing at the Capitol.

In 2014, Senator Holt let the effort to kill the non-secured buildings bill. This bill would have removed non-secured government buildings from the list of prohibited places in the Self-Defense Act. Senator Holt refused to sign the bill out of a conference committee. Conference Committees are a way for Senators to kill bills very quietly and out of public view. In our discussions with him during that time, he told us he did not care how many of his constituents called him in favor of the bill, he was going to do what the Oklahoma City Mayor, Mick Cornett, wanted him to do. He said this to representatives of OK2A and NRA.

In 2015, Senator Hold worked quietly and out of public view to sustain Governor Fallin’s veto of SB41, which would have closed the loophole some cities are using to ban the otherwise legal carrying of firearms during city festivals held on public streets. At the close of the 2015 session, in a Red Dirt Report article, Senator Holt accused us of not basing our scorecard on “votes and actions at the Capitol.” That is exactly what our scorecard is based upon. Senator Holt was graded down because of his consistent attempts to keep pro-gun legislation from ever getting a vote.

Senator Holt mentioned in his form letter response, that OK2A-Action hadn’t even talked to him about HJR1009. We didn’t need to because Senator Holt has a clear history of siding with Michael Bloomberg. He also said that he could not block the bill from being heard. Can Senator Holt stop the Senate from hearing this bill? No. He can, however, along with other Senators, pressure leadership to not hear the bill and that is exactly what he has been doing. This has been confirmed by multiple Senators.

Senator Holt claims that HJR1009 would cause the Thunder to leave Oklahoma City because the NBA requires firearms to be banned at their games. Other states (Louisiana, Missouri, and Alabama) have similar language in their constitutions. The Pelicans haven’t left New Orleans. So, Senator Holt clearly has a record of siding with Michael Bloomberg and using baseless claims to try to kill pro-gun legislation. As if that isn’t bad enough, he then tries to deflect blame for his anti-gun actions. Perhaps the voters of Senate District 30 need to fire Senator Holt in November of 2018.
