Officers hand out ice cream cones to unsuspecting drivers (VIDEO)

Twenty drivers in Halifax County, Virginia, got quite a surprise after seeing blue lights in their rearview mirrors Friday. Instead of citations, officers handed out ice cream cones, and one of priceless reactions was caught on camera.

In the video, Officer Brian Warner pulled over a lady in a blue sedan and asked the driver if she was aware of vehicle code 1739. The obviously nervous driver, nor her male passenger, were aware of the code or what had warranted the traffic stop. Officer Warner then explained that vehicle code 1739 made it a violation to drive on a hot day without an ice cream cone. The driver and her passenger immediately busted out in laughter as the officer handed them each an ice cream cone.

“Her reaction was absolutely the best,” Warner later said. “It was genuine, and she had us smiling and laughing for a good hour afterwards, and I’ve probably watched the video myself 50 times just laughing… and that’s one of the great things with police work you get to meet people like that on a daily basis, and it makes the job worth it.”

Likewise, Sergeant Stuart Come said it’s important for their department, which consists of only five officers, to feel connected with the community.

“I love this community,” Come said. “I love our citizens and we appreciate the support that they give us on a daily basis…not just for times like this, but for everyday”
