NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- Even as state and federal lawmaking slowed down in this holiday week, media activity on the part of anti-gun elected leaders picked up.
So, it was a welcome counter-balance to see that the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley did a decisively fair job in editing and airing an interview on Tuesday with Steve Sanetti that was actually conducted several weeks ago.
The interview accurately captured the NSSF president’s argument that it is controlling access to firearms that should be at the heart of efforts to prevent violence and make American society safer.
A CBS poll released this week shows that public support for more gun-control legislation is falling. Seeing that the opportunity for passage of significant new laws is quickly fading on Capitol Hill, President Obama took the opportunity Thursday to urge passage of universal background checks and other gun-control measures while flanked by mothers of shooting victims. Several times he invoked the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School as a cause for action.
His remarks in the East Room of the White House came on “National Day to Demand Action,” as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns organization held events in 29 states designed to pressure members of Congress into voting for universal background checks.
