New York’s Red Flag Law Could be Ironic Factor in Attacking Donald Trump

Will President Trump give “thumbs up” to “red flag law” enforcement if the bell tolls for him? (The White House/Facebook)

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Scaramucci: Trump Is a ‘Sociopath’ Who ‘Has Levels of Mental Decline’,” Townhall reported Friday. The unceremoniously dumped former White House Communications  Director was continuing in his quest to destroy a president he once praised. And he had a giant megaphone, courtesy of CNN, to do it with.

Why President Trump ever took “The Mooch” on in the first place baffled those of us who at the time questioned his principles and loyalty.

Anthony Scaramucc is not the first to make that very public case—even leftist shrinks have joined in the public chorus alleging the president is mentally ill. Per Salon, another “progressive” propaganda site hostile to Donald Trump (and naturally, to the right to keep and bear arms):

“Dr. Bandy Lee, who is a professor of psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and editor of the bestselling book ‘The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump’ convened a panel comprised of leading mental health experts to evaluate Donald Trump based upon his behavior as detailed in the Mueller report. Their definitive conclusion: Trump is mentally unfit, a threat to the United States and the world, and as such should have his powers severely restricted.”

Unsurprisingly, such “experts” are divided on the “ethics” (and there’s a malleable term of convenience for moral relativists) of publicly diagnosing someone they’ve never examined. If you’re a “progressive,” you can use politics to justify anything, and we’ve got an extensive and relatively recent historical record on the totalitarian nightmare that enables.

There’s a reason why they call us “gun nuts.” (Note many links in that old blog post are no longer active.)

Once again, Donald Trump’s “Take the guns first, due process later” endorsement could come back not just to haunt him, but also to be instrumental in advancing public opinion that the president’s alleged instability presents a danger meriting a big red flag. That’s the kind of infringement “Republicans” like Scaramucci call for, and it’s something gun owner rights advocates have warned the president time and again not to fall for.

Trump may be, as the line from Hamlet goes, “hoist with his own petard.”Because “thanks” to “gun control,” his enemies may have all the ammunition they need to deal a severe, if not a crippling, blow to his presidency.

We know from news reports that Donald Trump obtained a rare (practically impossible for the little guy) New York City concealed carry permit. A separate permit is required just to possess a gun there.

Even if they’re now inactive, they know he’s got guns.

New York recently enacted one of those “due process later” red flag laws:

“A new law in New York will allow law enforcement officials … to seek a petition to seize the guns of people that courts find are dangerous to themselves or others.”

That he’s no longer in the city might stop enforcement and confiscation, but it shouldn’t stop a judgment and order against what was authorized there, and that’s where the political damage would be. New York’s top LEO, anti-gun Attorney General Letitia James has already shown a penchant for being creative in getting attention for herself by going after manufacturers in other states.

Besides, if “the supreme Law of the Land” doesn’t stop them from making stuff up to suit their purposes, anything goes. It’s not like any burden of proof is on them.  “Due process later,” remember?

As a Democrat and close ally of gun-grabbing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, anything  James and he can do to hurt the president is not just a political imperative, for them, it would be personal. And it’s not like they wouldn’t have their pick of Party loyalist judges who would be more than eager to gain more favor and future considerations, and of “progressive” psychiatrists practically orgasmic at the prospect of signing on.

So why give them ideas?

You don’t think Democrat strategists haven’t already thought of this? They’re evil, not stupid.

I’m simply hoping getting ahead of it can somehow help put Republicans on notice that there’s always a danger such weaponized diktats will blow up in their faces—maybe then they’ll stop offering preemptive surrenders like Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham have. And I’m also hoping it can be a wake-up call for the one guy gun owners elected who keeps greenlighting new infringements and won’t even do something simple for them in return like acknowledging the Second Amendment was not “given” by government.

Anyone who believes “gun control” is not political has not been paying attention to the reason governments impose citizen disarmament. Only the ignorant and/or naive actually believe it’s really about “commonsense” or safety. Each edict is about would-be tyrants amassing more power to use against those they would rule.

And each concession takes those who, hell yes, would absolutely take your guns, one “baby step” closer to that monstrous goal. That’s not a lesson we should need to teach those who promised their fidelity in return for our trust.
