More on the Springfield Armory XD-E hammer-fired 9mm compact (VIDEO)

Guns.com caught up with 24-time USPSA National champion Rob Leatham to go hands-on with Springfield’s newest addition to their XD stable.

The XD-E, introduced this week at the 146th National Rifle Association Annual Meetings and Exhibits at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, is a 3.3-inch barrel single-stack 9mm with an exposed hammer– a first for the line.

The pistol’s low-effort slide and “point and shoot” ergonomics, coupled with a one-inch wide frame, make it ideal for the concealed carry market, especially for those who are not enamored with striker-fired handguns. Tipping the scales at 25-ounces unloaded, the XD-E has an 8+1 capacity with a flush-fit mag or 1-9 with Springer’s Mag X-Tension system, and the gun ships with both.
