Saint Paul, MN -(AmmoLand.com)- All of the remaining pro-gun provisions in Senate File 878, the 2015 Public Safety Omnibus Policy & Finance Bill, are now in full effect.

In addition to legalizing the possession of sound suppressors back on July 1st, here are the other provisions that are now in effect in Minnesota:

  • Permit holders no longer need to provide a redundant notification to the Commissioner of Public Safety when carrying a firearm at the Minnesota State Capitol Complex – your permit serves as notification.
  • Minnesotans now will have an easier time purchasing firearms in states that do not border Minnesota, thanks to a change in language in Minnesota Law to clarify and confirm with federal law.
  • A change in permit to carry reciprocity language to help simplify this issue.

This bill was passed with strong bipartisan support in the House and Senate and signed into law by Governor Dayton.

Thanks to our supporters and gun owners across the state for showing up at the capitol, calling your Senators and Representatives, and putting the pressure on Governor Dayton when needed. Your actions made this happen!

Thanks as well to our partners at the National Rifle Association, the American Suppressor Association, and the Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance for their work at the Capitol this past legislative session.

A Word About Reciprocity

Even with the language in SF878, the Commissioner of Public Safety still gets the final word on which state laws are similar to Minnesota’s – and thus which permits will be recognized in the state.

We have not yet seen the revised list from the Department of Public Safety – it will be posted at this link when it has been updated.

We are monitoring this issue closely to ensure that DPS keeps their word to interpret the statutes as written – and will hold their feet to the fire if they do not. We’ll keep you updated.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

None of these efforts are successful without your support and contributions.

Could you contribute $25, $50, or even $75 or more today to allow us to continue to restore our Second Amendment rights here in Minnesota? Your generous contributions go directly towards supporting our efforts to elect & defend a strong, Pro-Second Amendment legislature here in Minnesota.

Yours in Liberty,

Bryan Strawser
Executive Director

P.S. If you haven’t yet done so, please sign our petition to Governor Dayton to ARM THE MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD and provide them with the means of self-defense. We’re already making progress on putting the public pressure on Dayton to change his stance on this issue — will you stand with us by signing the petition today?
