Peoria, AZ -(AmmoLand.com)- Each year, the generosity of enthusiastic sponsors, volunteers and AES members help provide financial resources for wildlife water source repairs, elk habitat restoration projects, youth conservation scholarships and educational camps and much more.
Arizona Elk Society’s track record as an on-the-ground, conservation organization that gets things done is next to none. In the past ten years, $4,500,000 has been raised improving over 850,000 acres of wildlife habitat in Arizona. In addition, through an AES investment of $250,000 more than 6,000 children have benefited from AES youth projects, camps and educational programs throughout the State — more than 650 kids in 2015 alone.

AES’ priority initiatives for 2016 include the new “Hunts for Heroes” military disabled veterans project, that Dave Holbrook has worked so hard on this past fall, the expansion of the Water for Wildlife projects and Restoration of Long Valley Riparian Meadow in Unit 5A.
Kevin Widner was the first “Hunts for Heroes” hunter on a Unit 10 Antelope tag donated to the AES. HPO Outfitters from Flagstaff guided him and Kevin harvested his antelope in early September. AES plans more of these kinds of hunts in 2016.
As you may know, with Arizona’s drought deepening, AES’ hauling of water to distant water catchments in Elk Country is becoming more important for wildlife. We have found that many wildlife drinkers are no longer operational and are in need of repair. The Water for Wildlife project is focused on these restorations; in 2015, AES successfully rebuilt or refurbished over 45 of these tanks in Northern Arizona. Each rebuilt tank supports 4500 acres of wildlife habitat, effectively expanding the home ranges for elk and other wildlife. AES has targeted 50 more for treatment in 2016.
