Meet ArmaLite’s new M-15TBN precision AR-15 for law enforcement, competition

ArmaLite is rolling out a new high-precision AR-15 for 2014 for law enforcement and competition use. The rifle is designed to deliver on versatility, range and accuracy fronts. It is designed to be a semi-automatic compliment to their recent short-action AR-31.

The new rifle is the ArmaLite M-14TBN Rifle, chambered for 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. A decidedly tactical rifle, the gun is built around a match-grade stainless-steel barrel with a 1-in-8-inch twist to accommodate a very wide range of bullet weights, from lightweight target rounds to heavy self-defense and special-purpose rounds.

The stainless-steel barrel measures in at an extended 18 inches, to squeeze more out of any load while still being light and maneuverable. ArmaLite triple-laps the barrels for a high degree of polish ensuring consistency and accuracy.

Helping out on the precision front is a free-floating quad-railed hand guard. Other accessories include a B5 Systems SOPMOD Bravo lightweight adjustable stock and standard A2 pistol grip and flash hider. The rifle is shown here with a scope but is “optics ready” leaving sighting options up to the end user and come with an unadorned flattop rail.

Of course the M-15TBN uses ArmaLite’s hardened 7075-T6 aluminum receivers, upper and lower, and the lower receiver houses an ArmaLite National Match two-stage trigger. The trigger alone retails for $200 and is set at the factory at 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds.

Lastly, the M-15TBN comes with a flat-bottomed 10-round magazine for added support while shooting prone. Naturally the rifle works with all standard AR-15/M16 magazines. The whole package weighs in at a respectable but not heavy 7.9 pounds unloaded.

All together with a sticker of $1,449 this a competitively-priced rifle with a fierce pedigree. We expect real-world prices to be much closer to $1,100 to $1,200. Availability should be soon to immediate with M-15TBNs currently shipping.
