A Maui man got creative last year when he allegedly stole guns using a mango picker now faces time in federal prison.
An agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said in an affidavit that Sancho Agtaguem used a mango picker to steal a bag of firearms out of a storage unit in Kahului on the Hawaiian island of Maui.
Agtaguem reportedly stole four handguns and two rifles, described as follows: .22-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, .357-Magnum caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, .22-caliber Ruger rifle, .260-caliber Remington rifle, 9mm-caliber Sig Sauer pistol, and a .22-caliber Beretta pistol.
Court documents say Agtaguem then traded one of the rifles for drugs, kept another rifle and handgun, and gave the remaining handguns to an accomplice, who then also traded the remaining firearms for drugs.
One of the handguns that had been traded for drugs by Agtaguem’s accomplice ended up being used in an attempted robbery at a local Walgreens.
The arrest of that individual then led law enforcement to track down the origin of the firearms and contact the owner of the storage unit, who did not know the guns had been stolen until contacted by the officers.
Previously convicted of a crime punishable by over one year in prison, Agtaguem pleaded not guilty last week to illegal possession of firearms and is scheduled to attend a detention hearing Wednesday.
