1. November Letter from the President
As previously noted, the Baltimore City Council wants to ban the mere possession of any toy gun that could be “reasonably perceived” to be a real firearm. A similar proposal recently was floated briefly in Salisbury.
We provided initial comments (available here) when we got wind of the proposal and pointed out a multitude of problems, including a direct conflict with federal law.
We then filed still more comments (available here) in rebuttal of the City Solicitor’s proposed “solution” supplied to the Council.
The bill has been amended (we don’t yet have a copy of the actual language) by a committee of the Council, and that Committee recommends passage.

So, at this point, we are waiting to see what finally emerges. We don’t expect the City Council to abandon this quest to criminalize the possession of toys.
Indeed, we expect something similar from the General Assembly at the next session. We can also expect to see the same legislation that failed last year, be refiled.
Legislation such as severely criminalizing the mere possession of any “weapon” (including a pocket knife or tools) anywhere on any college campus. We will keep you up to date.

2. Upcoming Gun Shows!
The Jarrettsville VFW Gun Show is this weekend, and the Frederick Gun Show is next weekend. They still need a few volunteers to help staff the booths. Please check the links below if you are willing to help us out.

MSI will continue attending gun shows in the coming months. As always, they are asking for volunteers to help staff their booth. They would love to have some new faces sign up to help out.

The drawing will be held at the upcoming quarterly membership meeting!

5. Membership Cards
The membership cards have been sent out. If you have not already received yours, you should receive it soon.
Please retain the card as it will serve as your proof of active membership for entry into MSI meetings.
Note: when you renew your membership, the cards will go out at the beginning of the following month.
