At this year’s SHOT Show Glock formally announced the release of the G41 and G42.
The G41, chambered in .45 ACP, is an IPSC-Shooter’s dream come true. It has the thin profile of a 9mm long slide G34 and the major power factor of .45 cartridge. It also has an extended sight radius comparable to the longer-barrelled G34, which aids in sight picture acquisition. All of these factors combine to create an excellent competition companion. On the other end of the spectrum is Glock’s smallest pistol to date.

The G42 is a single stack, striker-fired, sub-compact pistol chambered in .380 ACP. Unlike most compact pistols in .380 ACP the G42 is not a direct blow-back design. This means that racking the slide requires less strength, and recoil should be less than traditional blowback offerings such as the Walther PPK. The G42 was especially popular at the SHOT Show Media Day range outing, where a line of some 20-odd writers anxiously awaited their turn with the compact polymer pistol. I, unfortunately, was unable to get trigger time, but everyone walking away had a smile on their face.
