Lab tests show teen fired gun before he was fatally shot by St. Louis cop (VIDEO)

Results released Tuesday from ballistic tests confirmed that an 18-year-old who was shot and killed by an off-duty St. Louis cop last week did, in fact, fire at the officer.

The family of Vonderrit Myers Jr. maintains that he was unarmed and carrying a sandwich when he was shot by the unidentified officer, but the tests showed Myers had gunshot residue on his hands, KSDK reported.

According to the officer, who was working a second job as a neighborhood security guard, he was patrolling the neighborhood when he drove past Myers and two other teens when they began to act suspiciously. After a foot pursuit, the officer and Myers became involved in a physical confrontation. The officer said he shot Myers only after Myers fired at him.

The shooting death of Myers reignited a firestorm of protests in and around Ferguson, Missouri.
