A Kansas man who goes by the name “Gunrunner” was arrested yesterday on charges of trafficking firearms overseas.
In an indictment unsealed last week by a federal court, Michael Andrew Ryan, 35, of Manhattan, Kansas, faces 18-counts of removing serial numbers off firearms, making false statements to a federal firearms licensed dealer, and exporting firearms overseas.
According to the indictment, Ryan was active in the gunrunning business from June 2013 to August 2013. In that time he had straw buyers purchase four Glock pistols and had obtained five other guns through unspecified means.
In August 2013, he attempted to ship the guns with magazines and ammo across the globe to areas like Ireland, England, Scotland and Australia, but before he did he scratched off the serial number of each gun.
The indictment listed an itinerary of sorts of the guns and their destination:
- The Beretta and Taurus with scratched off serial numbers, magazines and ammo were sent to Cork, Ireland.
- Two Glock pistols with scratched off serial numbers, magazines and ammo to Cork, Ireland.
- A .22-caliber IWI Uzi with scratched off serial number, magazine and ammo to Pinner, England
- A .45-caliber Hi Point with a magazine and ammo to Edinburgh, Scotland.
- A Walther 22 P22 pistol with a magazine to Victoria, Australia.
- Lastly, two Glock pistols with scratched off serial numbers, magazines and ammo to Mallow, Ireland.
