Jim Zumbo’s Favorite Recipe: Unreal Stew For Gamey Meat

Stew Ingredients

Stew For Gamey Meat
Stew For Gamey Meat

ROUND 1
1/2 lb bacon
2 lb venison; cut in 1-inch — squares

ROUND 2
2 qt water
1 lg onion; diced
5 stalks celery; and leaves, -diced
3 bay leaves
1/2 ts salt
1/2 ts garlic salt
1/2 ts pepper
1 ts parsley

ROUND 3
1 yellow pepper; chopped
1 red pepper; chopped
12 ds teriyaki sauce
2 tb A-1 steak sauce
5 tb brown gravy mix; or 1 -package
5 tb chicken gravy mix; or 1 -package
1 pk chili mix
6 fresh mushrooms; diced
16 oz tomato juice; (1 large can)

ROUND 4
4 med tomatoes; diced
4 potatoes; diced
4 carrots; diced

1. Brown bacon and set aside. Brown meat in bacon grease until it
loses its pink color.

2. Place meat and bacon in pot (or slow cooker) and cover with 2 inches
of water. Add “Round 2” vegetables and seasonings. Cook 2 or more
hours until meat is tender, adding water as necessary.

3. After meat is tender, add “Round 3” vegetables and seasonings. Cook for 30 minutes.

4. Add “Round 4” vegetables and cook until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.

Serves 4-6
