Jeh Johnson: ‘Gun control has to be a part of homeland security’ (VIDEO)

President Obama’s Homeland Security chief said in an interview Tuesday that it has now become time for the cabinet-level department to get involved in gun control.

“We have to face the fact that meaningful gun control has to be a part of homeland security,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in an interview on CBS This Morning. “We need to do something to minimize the opportunity for terrorists to get a gun in this country.”

Johnson, speaking of the on-going investigation into the aftermath of the Orlando terror attack, voiced that the FBI– which falls under the Department of Justice and not Homeland Security– is “very good at what they do,” and routinely take down terrorist plots.

When pressed on gun control Johnson avowed he was “not anxious” to take on the topic, but “I do believe that meaningful, responsible gun control, is now part and parcel of Homeland Security. It’s critical to public safety.”
