Jefferson Township NJ Town Council Bowing Down to Anti Hunting Groups
Hunters needed to speak out against an ordinance that to limit bow hunting on public property.

Jefferson Township, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)-  All outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen in the Sussex and Morris county area are requested to attend the Jefferson Township council meeting Wednesday, October 6th, to speak out against an ordinance that would limit bow hunting on public property to 450-foot and override the 150-foot perimeter law.

Please alert others about the meeting. Come appropriately dressed and keep your comments brief. As you know, the 150-foot reduction law was signed into law to help provide access to deer populations and cull more deer.

Deer culling is important for the following reasons:

1. Reduce New Jersey’s 7,000 reported deer/vehicle accidents per year (unreported accidents are estimated at 2 times this amount. Statistics from State Farm Insurance). New Jersey and Nebraska have shown the biggest increase in car-deer collisions (54 percent) over five years.
2. Reduce that riask of contracting Lyme disease. Deer are the main hosts for the tick that carries the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Some researchers believe that deer population densities regulate tick population densities and that deer population reduction will reduce tick populations.
3. Reduce ecological damage, to farms and house landscaping as well as forests. The whole forest community suffers when deer are over-abundant.
4. Bow hunting is extremely safe. Currently, Pennsylvania has a 150′ bow perimeter zone and Connecticut has NO bow perimeter zone. There have been no reported bow accidents to non-hunters in NJ that anyone can recall.
