IRS Agents Accidentally Fired Shots 11 Times; Audit Questions Whether They’re Adequately Trained

A report published in September is questioning whether IRS CID agents are being adequately trained with firearms, including AR-15s.

“When performing their duties, special agents carry firearms and are authorized to use deadly force to protect themselves and the public,” the report states.

The audit shows that agents accidentally discharged their firearms 11 times between 2009 and 2012. However, not all of the accidental discharges are being reported, even though some of those may have resulted in physical damage or personal injury.
