Intruder opens fire on teen, promptly shot by teen’s mom

Two people were injured during what’s being described as a robbery gone wrong in Port St. Lucie, Florida, early Monday morning.

The incident unfolded shortly after 1 a.m. as a group of teens were playing video games in a ground-floor apartment. During the gaming session, there was a knock at the door and one of the teens went to answer it. Eventually, the other teens came to the door as well.

“At that time, a guy with a gun whistles for another guy with a gun to come up,” Master Sgt. Frank Sabol told reporters at the scene following the incident. “They both enter the residence. One of the teens takes off and takes refuge in the bathroom.”

One of the suspects began firing through the bathroom door, striking the teen in the abdomen, but soon thereafter, the teen’s mother emerged from a bedroom armed with a handgun. She opened fire on the suspects, who immediately fled the scene.

The teen was taken to the hospital, and while he was there, one of the suspects showed up suffering from a gunshot wound to the wrist. Both suspects were taken into custody and the teen is expected to recover.
