Inside the military’s underground city hidden inside a mountain (VIDEO)

Cheyenne Mountain Complex outside of Colorado Springs dates back to the 1960s and besides gaining fame in War Games and Stargate, is still very active.

Originally set up for the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) as a survivable command and control hub in the most frosty days of the Cold War, the hollowed out mountain with its 25-ton blast doors capable of withstanding a 30 megaton near miss was largely vacated when many of its duties were transferred to the more comfortable offices of nearby Peterson Air Force Base in 2006.

However, due to its inherent protections against electromagnetic pulse weapons, alien attack and anything else you can think of, it was re-designated as an Alternate Command Center two years later and in 2015 it was announced that Raytheon was given a $700-million contract to upgrade the commo gear inside the sleeping dragon over the next half-decade.

Just in case.
