A man from Stillwater, Minnesota, is lucky to be alive after he accidentally shot himself in the head with a nail gun.
“This was the most freak thing that could have happened that I didn’t die from,” said Nick Thompson. “I don’t know what else to say other than that.”
Thompson and a friend, Frankie Peterson, were framing a closet when Thompson, as he figured it happened, hit a nail already in the wood, causing the new nail to ricochet right into his face. The nail from the pneumatic nail gun sank several inches into his skull.
Thompson was rushed to the hospital, where the nail was surgically removed. Thompson kept the nail as a reminder of how lucky he is.
“One more millimeter and it was a lobotomy,” said Thompson. “One more millimeter and it was poke my eye out. One more millimeter this way and I was dead. There are so many things that could’ve gone wrong. I don’t know how everything went right.”
Thompson remains in a lot of pain but is expected to make a full recovery.
