Affordable gun maker Hi-Point will introduce new extended magazines for its .45-caliber carbine at the beginning of 2017, the company’s distributor, MKS Supply, announced Wednesday.

The design copies Hi-Point’s Redball magazine, which holds 20 rounds of 9mm, that was introduced earlier this year, but unlike the Redball, the .45 model will only hold 10 rounds.

“For engineering reasons and the huge volume of sales there were no plans by Hi-Point to make a higher capacity magazine,” MKS said in its announcement.

“While it looks like two magazines welded together — it’s not!” MKS said and explained the device is held together by a locking plate. Then at the mid-point begins a polymer molded grip.

MKS said Hi-Point fans can expect .40 S&W and .380ACP mags in the near future, but asked for patience. “It takes time to develop and create a reliable feeding magazine, much more complicated than most folks think,” MKS said.
