Mark Redl, Team Colt shooter and product manager for Colt, gave Guns.com the lowdown on the company’s new and improved competition 1911s.
Showing off the stainless beauties at the 146th National Rifle Association Annual Meetings and Exhibits at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Redl advised the updated line taps in the classic 70 series styling (yup, no firing pin block) while blending in the modern standards of adjustable rear sights, fiber optic front sights and Colt’s dual spring recoil system for improved recoil.
Other standard features on the Gold Cup are an undercut trigger guard and upswept beavertail grip safety, factory 25 LPI checkering on the front and rear strap of the grip, and blue G10 grips.
The new Gold Cup Trophy is also available in 9mm if you are into that kind of thing, with both having an MSRP of $1,699.
Both guns use the 70 series internals, with the benefit of fewer moving parts in the trigger assembly, as well as a noticeable reduction in the length and weight of the trigger pull.
The Competition model, available in both blue and stainless, as well as in either .45 ACP or 9mm, features National Match barrels and Novak adjustable rear sights.
