BOSTON, MA –-(Ammoland.com)- Today, the Gun Owners’ Action League of Massachusetts, a grassroots organization of just over 17,000 members applauded the decision by Clear Channel, OutFront Media, Logan Communications, and Total Outdoor to remove misleading advertising which was originally donated to Stop Handgun Violence (SHV).
Stop Handgun Violence, with a long track history of running signs featuring outright lies, statistical manipulation and imagery designed to elicit an emotional response aimed at advancing anti-civil rights laws, was recently forced to find a new home for their false messaging.
When it was reported that the single sign would be multiplied into 36 signs statewide, Second Amendment advocates, led by GOAL took exception and acted.
GOAL led an strategic communications campaign, which urged civil rights advocates to contact the billboard companies and ask that they not perpetuate the false truths as a “service” for Stop Handgun Violence. GOAL utilized a social media campaign using the hashtag #billboardtruth, a strong national media push, and grassroots actions by members for emails and phonecalls to the donating corporations.
After less than 24 hours, the majority of the companies agreed to remove the advertising. GOAL applauds this decision;
“GOAL has a 40 plus year history of providing professional firearms safety training”, said Jim Wallace Executive Director of GOAL, “we have also spent many years on Beacon Hill working towards real solutions which would respect Second Amendment rights and also offer better options for crime fighting and public safety.”
