Gun, badge stolen out of Florida trooper’s vehicle (VIDEO)

Authorities are investigating after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s gun and badge were stolen out of her vehicle last week.

The 28-year-old law enforcement officer was off-duty at the time, with her personal vehicle parked at a friend’s house in Jacksonville when the theft occurred. The vehicle was locked, but the suspect still managed to make off with the officer’s .45-caliber service pistol and police badge, was well as her credit cards.

One neighborhood resident, who did not want to be identified, said the number of car burglaries in the area is concerning, but also said he isn’t sure what can be done to stop them, noting that people already keep their cars locked.

Experts say if you must leave a weapon in your vehicle, it’s best to lock it up in a lockbox that is kept out of sight.
